The Promotion of a Democratic and Just International Order Through the Regulation of Self-Determination
The main idea of the paper is to explore how better regulation of self-determination can promote a peaceful, democratic, and equitable international order.
It examines the principle of self-determination, its facets, and challenges, particularly in the context of territorial conflicts and the tension between self-determination and state sovereignty.
The paper advocates for a framework based on democracy, negotiation, and good practices to address territorial disputes, protect human rights, and accommodate national and territorial pluralism.
It also emphasizes the need for gradual expansion of self-determination rights and proposes the development of a code of good practices to guide self-determination processes.
