Coppieters Foundation President, Antonia Luciani, heads a delegation to make the case for its candidacy for consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council NGO Committee.
During her speech she stressed the importance of a plural and engaged civil society capable of reinforce and underpin the work of the United Nations and the International Community.
Luciani presented the Coppieters Foundation as a positive and proactive actor ready to contribute to the mission of the United Nations by promoting research and debates to provide elements of reflection on issues of social relevance for the global community.
Coppieters’ mission is to provide knowledge driven ideas to improve our governing institutions, and to build a societies that are just, embracing of diversity, sustainable and protective of the rights of women.
The address was followed by questions from the representatives of Member States, which were welcomed and answered by the President.
The debate lead to the conclusion of the Coppieters Foundation’s speech at the 2025 regular session of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations.
During the week of the session, Antonia Luciani met with representatives of the missions of the European Union to the United Nations and other Members of the Committee to hold bilateral meetings to explain in detail the status of the application and to find ways to acommodate all the potential concerns of the committee.
We also met with civil society organisations monitoring the work of the commitee, like the International Service for Human Rights, and academic insitituions like the Center for International Human Rights at John Jay College, with whom we are working on joint publications.
