The Coppieters Foundation takes part at UN-led forum at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, where it presented innovative policy solutions to promote cultural and linguistic diversity.

Coppieters addressed the critical challenges facing minoritized languages, particularly in Media and Digital media: Languages are not just tools for communication; they are carriers of identity, culture, and history. Their absence in Media and Digital Media undermines cultural pluralism and increases social inequities. Globalization, while offering potential for increased interconnectivity, has also contributed to sidelining linguistic diversity through market-driven and algorithmic biases.

Coppieters foundation emphasized three actionable policy recommendations for the international community, UN member states, other international organistions and civiil society organisations gathering at the seventeenth session of the Forum on Minorities Issues:

  1. Adopt inclusive legislative frameworks to ensure fair media representation for all languages.
  2. Allocate funding to support the production of content in minority and minotised languages.
  3. Ensure algorithmic transparency in digital platforms to prevent linguistic discrimination.

The Coppieters Foundation remains committed to contribute to the work of the UN and to fostering cultural and linguistic diversity and invites global stakeholders to collaborate in building a more inclusive future for all communities.
