The Coppieters Foundation promotes its candidacy to be recognized as a consultative entity of the ECOSOC with the aim of expanding its scope of intervention beyond the European Union.

During the Session of the ECOSOC NGO Committee that will take place between January 23 and February 1 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Coppieters President Xabier Macias will address the representatives of the Member States of the Committee to present the Coppieters Foundation and the main milestones of its 15-year career.

After gaining experience in the European context, in 2018 the foundation decided to expand its intervention space and, specifically, to the United Nations, which led to the candidacy for ECOSOC in 2018. This decision upholds in relation to the concern of the European think tank regarding certain sociopolitical trends in the actual world, especially those related to the weakening of democratic systems or threats to basic human rights, in addition to the environmental, economic and social sustainability risks derived from the climate crisis.

In this context, the Coppieters Foundation considers the United Nations as an essential space for the defense of Peace, human rights and conflict resolution.

The Coppieters Foundation’s agenda also includes meetings with entities and associations with representation in New York as well as other institutions that work for Human Rights.
