MEPs have rejected today (13 March 2013) the EU budget deal agreed by the European Council last month. The EP has adopted a resolution on the European Council conclusions of 7/8 February concerning the Multiannual Financial Framework by 506 votes (73%) to 161. The resolution criticises the cuts in the EU’s long-term financial framework (2014-2020) and spending priorities which had been agreed by heads of state and government.
The CMC published last year the paper ‘2014-2020 Un autre cadre financier pluriannuel pour une nouvelle Europe‘ in which the author, Roccu Garoby, raised timely questions regarding the budgetary structure of the Union: what should Europe’s priorities be, and how these are reflected in monetary terms?
Garoby, who was present at the EP session in Strasbourg this Wednesday, has live-tweeted during the vote:
506 MEPs for ''substantial increases'' in future oriented policy and development aid. Is #EP better than #EUco in modernizing #MFF?
