What are minority rights_invite 2 (002)

Centre Maurits Coppieters, in cooperation with the European Centre for Minority Issues, will be hosting a video launch and reception evening, which will take place in Brussels on 14 October 2016, from 17:30 onward at the Brussels Media Centre.

Coppieters and ECMI will showcase 3 videos: What are minority rights? How can we re-legitimise democracy and improve its quality? What is para-diplomacy?

As Europe’s recent social, political, and economic woes make these concerns and queries more pressing and relevant than ever, Centre Maurits Coppieters has joined forces with the European Centre for Minority Issues to prepare an educational video about the basic principles of minority rights, referring to the key provisions of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM).

The awareness-raising educational cartoon “What are the minority rights?” has three key ambitions: to educate, to promote the respect for diversity and its normative framework, and in the long-term, to have an impact on the wider policy level throughout Europe.

In addition, Centre Maurits Coppieters has also prepared two other animated videos. The first addresses the meaning of a “quality democracy” and what we want to see in our democracies of the 21st century, from re-conceiving societies to redefining political institutions. The second introduces “para-diplomacy”, an important mechanism for greater international cooperation at all levels, important in an open and globalized world.
