The Coppieters Foundation organises a conference in Bastia, Corsica, aiming to stimulate the debate by reframing concepts and sharing minority languages’ best practices in accordance with European values and within the framework of multilevel governance. The goal is to recommend the EU to reflect upon its policies and practices in matter of language promotion and protection.
The purpose of the first panel is to consider new innovative ways to define and frame the universal Right to Speak so that all minority languages can be respected and treated as equals within the EU. On which grounds should we define the right to ‘language protection’? How can we improve the European legal framework on minority language protection?
On the other hand, the purpose of the second panel is to develop ideas and share good practices of language protection in the EU so as to identify innovative ways to endorse the right to speak through civic engagement initiatives (citizens and organized civil society) and multilevel governance practices, that is, through vertical and horizontal coordination of local and regional entities.
The event will be moderated by Sandrina Antunes, Universidade do Minho (Portugal), academic coordinator of this conference.
When: 28 June 2022 from 18:00 to 20:00
Where: Auditorium du Musée de Bastia, Cours Favale, 20 200 Bastia, Corsica
Translation services to/from French, English and Corsican will be provided
