Maurits Coppieters was a politician who gained recognition in the post-war Flemish movement. A teacher by training and a youth leader at heart, for most of his life Coppieters was active in Flemish national politics and was deeply involved in the social and cultural life of the Flemish community, where the recurring themes of his work were social justice and pacifism.
He became the first member of the European Free Alliance in the European Parliament.
As a celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Maurits Coppieters (Sint-Niklaas, 1920- Deinze, 2005), we pay tribute to him and his legacy through an exhibition about his life and career.
The exhibition was initially planned for 2020 and has been postponed to now due to the Covid-19 mitigation measures.
