Commercial Zones: Crossing Perspectives on “Non-Places”
A new edition of the exhibition by the Coppieters Foundation
From 14 February 2020, the Order of Architects from Corsica will welcome the displays and photos featured in “Commercial Zones: Crossing Perspectives on “Non-Places”. This event follows a first edition of the exhibition which took place in Bastia in November 2019.
In the framework of this new edition, another roundtable will be organised to shed new light on the development of peripheral commercial zones. Like everywhere in France and Europe, Corsica is subjected to this model of commercial city planning in which city-centre shops are abandoned to the benefit of peripheral commercial centres, modeled on American “malls”.
These commercial centres transform the space, living spaces, and influence social relations, lifestyles and culture. Implicitly, this raises the question of the model of society induced by this mode of consumption.
The Coppieters Foundation invites the following experts for a debate:
- Antonia Luciani, Secretary-General of the Coppieters Foundation, Geographer and City Planner
- Franck Gintrand, Author of Le jour où les zones commerciales auront dévoré nos villes (The day when commercial zones will have devoured our cities)
- Lorena López de Lacalle, President of the European Free Alliance and former Minister of Culture from the Basque Country’s Araba Region
