Multinational Cities of Europe in an Intercultural Perspective

On November 12, 2024, at the Rijeka City Hall in Croatia, Coppieters Foundation in collaboration with the Free State of Rijeka Association, present a conference on the historical and cultural transformations of Central and Eastern European cities, with a particular emphasis on identity, memory, and regional dynamics.

The discussions will range from examining Gdańsk as a symbol of European memory in history and literature, to exploring the impact of nationalism and shifting borders on cities in the Eastern Adriatic and the Balkans.

Other topics that will be discussed include the transformation of border identities, the role of public spaces in reflecting hegemonic changes, and the interplay between local and broader European narrative.
